GuideStar Israel www.guidestar.org.il was launched on  3rd August 2010 during a press conference at the Ministry of Justice in Jerusalem. For the first time, financial and operational information on Israeli non-profit organisations (NPOs), numbering some 29,000, has been made transparent to the public online. The GuideStar Israel portal, which is in Hebrew, Arabic and English, lists each nonprofit organisation registered with the National Registrar of Non-profit Organizations in Israel.

History of GuideStar Israel's development

An agreement between the Israeli Ministry of Justice, JDC Israel and Yad Hanadiv (the Rothschild Foundation) on the creation of GuideStar site was signed on 18 March 2009, following two years of negotiations. According to the agreement, the Israeli Registrar of Non-profit Organisations of the Ministry of Justice (responsible for regulating non-profits) will support the project with the data reported to it and fund half the project for 5 years, while the other half will be funded by Yad Hanadiv. JDC, an institution with a distinguished history of cooperation with both Government and Third Sector Organisations, will be responsible for operating the project. Project Vision

The project will allow full transparency to civil society organisations in Israel nationally and globally as the project will contribute to the GuideStar International platform.

Supporters

The project is currently being developed as a joint nonprofit venture between Yad Hanadiv, the Joint Distribution Commitee (JDC Israel) and the Justice Ministry.
