GiveIndia, India’s largest philanthropy exchange has engaged GuideStar India to manage NGO registrations for the Joy of Giving Week (JGW). JGW, promoted by GiveIndia, is a huge national platform that will bring 20 million Indians together to engage in conscious acts of giving money, time, skills and donations in kind. GuideStar India is helping NGOs to register for the event and simultaneously post information into their records on GuideStar India (to be launched soon). This is one of the several data acquisition approaches being used by GuideStar India to build a comprehensive database in a country of nearly 3 million nonprofits spread across a vast geography which communicates using more than 20 languages! GuideStar India will be setting up on-the-spot registration desks at JGW workshops in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi and Hyderabad. At the Mumbai workshop held on June 13, 2009, seventy NGOs registered with GuideStar India.
